Students drew their self portraits with pastels on a tea-stained background of collaged newspaper. The students began by having their photograph taken with a digital camera. The photo was cropped and then printed in black and white. Over the photo, the students drew a 1" grid and then on the tea stained background, they drew a 2" grid. The grid made it a easier to draw and enlarge what they saw, while the black and white helped them to see different values. Matching the student's exact skin tone was also simplified with the tea stained paper. The end product looked similar to the old sepia colored photos.
"It was an interesting project, said Mrs. Kennedy. "Some of the students really did an oustanding job!" |
